On the Road Across America Part VI: Summertime in California

Summer is so mesmerizing. So much to do, so many people to see. Late night BBQ’s with the neighbors or trips to the city to go shopping. People are coming to visit. The sun is always shining but when it’s not, the sweet smell of rain fills the warm air.

The Golden State is exactly this. It’s always summer. When I was on my cross country trip it was about June when we made our way up the “Golden Coast”

California has everything from the beaches of San Diego to the Redwood Forest in the North. First for us, was San Francisco. We went to Alcatraz and it was awesome to walk where some of the worst criminals walked (in a third graders mind). We then went to Ghirardelli Chocolate for ice cream. I also tried sour-dough bread for the first time.

We continued up the west coast to the Redwood Forest. We went on multiple hikes and I realized how small I was in the huge forest. It was just like how small each one of us are in the world. In the forest though, just like the world, if we do something like cut down a tree we are making a difference.

We then traveled to Oregon for our four day White Water Rafting trip! It will be something I always remember! To be continued……
